Topkapi Palace

  • Saturday 14th 2012

First of all, my sincere apologies to those who were expecting a complete report. My brief-to-nonexistent report doesn’t do this place justice. There are many reasons for this.

It had been raining heavily all afternoon and we got soaked while making our way to the palace. The rain got even heavier while we were queuing to purchase our entrance tickets. After getting completely soaked, I just didn’t have the desire to fully explore the place. Not being a great museum fan doesn’t help.

Despite the rain, the crowds of tourists visiting the palace were still huge. The rooms were massively overcrowded. It was difficult to enjoy the historic treasures on display when people were virtually on top of all the exhibits. Photography was not allowed in most of the rooms.

I enjoyed viewing the rooms containing important holy relics of the Muslim world, including the Prophet Muhammad’s cloak and sword. I didn’t visit the Harem. I’ll go back one day and fully explore the palace the way it deserves to be explored.

On our way to Topkapi Palace.

A replica model is placed at the security point.

Entrance to one of the rooms in the palace.

That's a lot of people wanting to enter.

Rain put a damper on the day.

Because of rain the crowds were congested around the corridors.

Stunning ceiling art work.

Council room were photography was allowed.

I guess this is where all the important decisions were made.

Love the art work on the walls , Stunning!

Arabic verses.

The palace grounds.

Still raining heavily.

Crowds waiting for the rain to stop.

It never did. Not while i was there anyway.
